Dearest,
How would you describe your room?
How would you talk about your town or your city?
And what about the person you love, how would you describe them?
Chances are, you’d start with your eyes. The way the room looks in the morning light. What’s beautiful about your city. The features of your lover that catch your gaze.
There is an over-reliance on the eyes when we experience our world.
We speak of landscapes all the time. But soundscapes? Rarely.
We rarely describe the hum of our homes, the rhythm of our streets, the music of someone’s presence.
So tomorrow, let’s listen.
Let’s notice the sounds that surround us.
Let’s remember childhood through the crackle, the clatter, the quiet.
Let’s describe the people we love through the sounds they make, and the sounds they leave behind.
Come listen with me. Tomorrow, let sound lead the way.
Love,
Ree
